Davison County Commission terminates Veterans Service Officer Jessica Davidson

Wednesday, November 29, 2017

The Davison County Commission has terminated Veteran’s Service Officer Jessica Davidson. She received notice shortly after 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Commission Chairwoman Brenda Bode offered a prepared statement to KORN News Radio Wednesday afternoon: "This afternoon Davison County Veterans Service Officer, Jessica Davidson, was terminated of her position. This being a personnel issue, you understand as a Davison County Commissioner, I am unable to make any comments further. I do appreciate you attending yesterday's (Tuesday's) meeting, and wanted to inform you directly myself of this action."

Several weeks ago, South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Larry Zimmerman and Deputy Secretary Aaron Pollard met with Commissioners behind closed doors. Bode declined to comment on the purpose of that meeting because it was an executive session.

Wednesday, the SDDVA shut off access to a software program called Vetraspec to the Davison County VSO’s office, without notice, hours prior to Davidson’s termination. Bode was made aware but said the program belonged to the state.

Bode says the county will hold off in searching for a replacement as she wants to take time to assess the position and the hiring process.

KORN News Radio has reached out to Secretary Larry Zimmerman and is awaiting a response. Davidson declined to comment.
