Trooper wounded in Kimball standoff returns to patrol duty
Tuesday, March 31, 2015
Sgt. John Koenig, of Chamberlain, was shot Jan. 7 near Kimball. While his injuries were not considered life-threatening, he spent several days in a Sioux Falls hospital and then time recuperating at home.
Investigators say more than 100 rounds were fired during the daylong standoff.
Forty-two-year-old Donald London is charged with two counts of attempted murder and three counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer. His father, 66-year-old Michael London, is charged with aiding and abetting the crime.
Prosecutors say Donald London fired his rifle and struck Koenig when troopers surrounded his house after he threatened to kill the Chamberlain police chief.
Koenig's been with the patrol for 28 years.
